The story of Tilda is one of unbroken success. Starting in Harrow, North West London, UK, almost thirty years ago, Tilda has grown from a business cleaning and packing rice and pulses, into an international food brand selling in over 40 countries.
1972 - 1978
Tilda focuses on producing the highest quality Pure Basmati rice for
the Asian community. The company is widely recognised as producing a superb product.
1978 - 1988
Tilda moved to the Midlands, UK and embarked on a uniquely sophisticated marketing strategy to consolidate its hold on the Basmati market. With the increasing mainstream interest in authentic Indian cuisine, Tilda Pure Basmati secured distribution in major supermarkets.
1978 - 1988
The logo, initially plump and round to reflect a grain of rice, was subjected to a make-over to equip the brand for further expansion. After two years intensive research, Tilda packaging was given a completely new look. The packaging change was revolutionary and introduced a new easy open tear strip and zip to 5kg, 10kg and 20kg bags to allow for resealability. This step was an immediate aesthetic and marketing success. The range now includes other pure, authentic speciality rices.
1978 - 1988
With demand inexorably gaining on supply, Tilda embarked on a massive expansion plan to meet expected global projections. Tilda commissioned the building of Europe's largest and most advanced rice mill, adjacent to the River Thames, just outside London.
1989 - 1999
Now based in Rainham, Essex, Tilda launched into Europe, the Middle East and the USA. Within the UK, during this period, the brand was eagerly taken up by the Foodservice sector where the rice range was added to with Indian/Oriental ready to use sauces. By the mid-nineties, the Rainham site saw greatly enlarged storage and milling capacity, an extended packing hall and new offices.
2000 - 2006
Recognising the need for convenience Tilda introduced Tilda Rizazz, the range took top quality ingredients and combined them with Basmati rice to create a range of cosmopolitan recipe rices that were ready to eat in just two minutes.
